JANSENISTS.
1585 A.D. CORNELIUS JANSEN, 1638 A.D.
NBishop of Ypres, Holland. His principal work "Augustinus," based upon a profound study of St. Augustine's doctrines of grace, free will and predestination, gave rise to the doctrine called Jansenism, which tends to limit the free will of man and maintains that the grace of salvation is only accorded to chosen souls for whom alone Christ died.
