The Timaeus and the Critias are two of Plato's most famous Socratic dialogues. Not only do they give a deep insight into the Ancient Greek ideas on cosmogenesis, metaphysics and the purpose of creation, both documents also contain the world's first recorded references to the fabled lost empire of Atlantis. These two dialogues are the source of the legend that has inspired treasure seekers, conspiracy theorists and serious scientists to investiage the possibility of a lost continent of antiquity and from which much esoteric speculation has stemmed.
